Congratulations to all of our young riders who earned spots on the jumping, eventing and dressage teams at the North American Junior Young Rider Championships this month. For the third year in a row, we celebrate these terrific kids with a spotlight on all of the riders representing USHJA Zone 10, USEA Area VI and USDF Region 7. Take a moment to review their accomplishments and wish them the very best!

Another annually recurring feature is our look at the fitness & nutrition routines for top horse/rider pairs in three disciplines. Lane Clarke, Susan Ighani and Erin Kellerhouse kindly shared their strategies with Balu U, Liaison and Woodford Reserve and it’s a fun and informative read.

Last month I went to the Mane Event in Scottsdale, AZ, the Western States Horse Expo in Sacramento and the American Horse Publications Conference back held in Scottsdale. All events were fun for me -- talking to hundreds of horse people. But the most fun was the AHP Conference where I got to participate in the mounted cowboy shooting clinic. Wow was that ever fun! Back home in San Diego, I also just got accepted on the East County Equestrian Foundation board of directors and I will be helping them in fundraising and marketing for the Lakeside Equestrian Park. See the article about that exciting project for a covered arena and 14 acre equestrian facility in this issue.

Now we’re gearing up for our August issue, with a special dressage emphasis. Keep those story ideas, pictures and suggestions coming. Big thanks to our subscribers and advertisers who make it possible to bring our unique depth and breadth of news and features to 20,000-plus readers throughout the West Coast. We’ve been doing it for 30 years and look forward to the next three decades.

In our June issue feature, Riding School Spotlight, we incorrectly identified BTH Equestrian owner Brittany Massey as Brittney Haynie. Our apologies, Brittany!

Happy Riding!
