Kasey Perry’s Florida Feats

Kasey Perry and Goerklingaards Dublet (Diamond Hit x La Costa/Olympic Ferro) braved pouring rain and Dublet’s inexperience to win both of their Grand Prix classes with a 74.8 percent and 71.5 percent in the Palm Beach Derby National Show in Florida in early March.

As of mid-March, Kasey and Dublet, owned by Diane Perry, were ranked seventh in the Pan American Games Small Tour Ranking List. However, the week of February 12, Kasey showed the big bay 12 year old Danish gelding in his first Grand Prix to win against eight competitors with a 69.3%.

At the Global Dressage Festival 3 CDI-W, the pair won the Intermediaire Freestyle and finished second out of 48 horses at Prix St. Georges.

“He went through our second Grand Prix with ease and happiness,” says Kasey. “We are still working on his straightness in the piaffe and passage, but that was our only weak area. His canter pirouettes were beautiful, along with his 2’s and 1’s. The next day he was very tired. Grand Prix two days in a row was a lot for him. But he was quiet and worked with me through the test. I am so proud of him.”

Kasey and Dublet also brought home The Horse Of Course High Score Award.

From the Sacramento area’s Orangevale, Kasey is also competing in the 2015 Global Dressage Festival with Diane Perry’s Grand Prix mare Trøstruplund’s Scarlet. She has been a participant in the invitational USEF Observation Clinics with Robert Dover, U.S. Dressage Technical Advisor/Chef d’Equipe for emerging athletes, with USEF Developing Dressage Coach Debbie McDonald, and with Scarlet is on the USEF Dressage Grand Prix Long List.

Rancho El Encanto - Sleepy little town producing spectacular Spanish horses!

Even without knowing the property's name, Rancho El Encanto poses an enchanting sight when glimpsed from a car window cruising by on a winding, wooded road in the Monterey area. In the paddock visible from the road, buckskin, gray, bay and black young horses frolic in the shade of spreading oaks and pines.

We are excited to bring you this issue featuring spring fashions, eventing and equine insurance. Thanks to Steve Boyer for our great photo spread from the Area VI’s Trifecta weekend and don’t miss the feature on local star eventer Hawley Bennett-Awad. Young rider and writer Sydney Callaway pulled together a terrific fashion piece with input from Mackenzie Drazan, Saree Kayne, Karl Cook and Ecole Lathrop, and top insurance agents Donna Chopp Parker, Marnye Langer and Holly Lopes clarify some common misunderstandings about horse-related insurance. We really appreciate everybody’s input!
It was great to see everyone at Horse Expo Pomona and thanks to everyone who stopped by to tell us how much they love California Riding Magazine. I will be attending the AIG $1 Million Grand Prix at HITS this month. This circuit is as busy as ever. I also will be at the 2015 Longines World Cup Jumping Finals and the Reem Acra FEI World Cup Dressage Finals in Las Vegas next month. I am super excited for that amazing event to be back in our area. We will also have time to attend the Ma’Ceo at the South Point the Sunday before.
I’m having fun bringing along my foster horse Joey aka Marquis from FalconRidge. He has a funny personality and is learning to have fun in the round pen and under saddle. You can check his progress on my Facebook page. Please keep sending us your story ideas. Julie Young from Silver Bay Stables gave me a great story idea about a young vaulter. We hope to bring that to you soon.
Happy Riding!

Soon after we got the news that our first granddaughter was on the way, I geared up. I bought horse toys, stuffed horses, horse books and horse clothes. I got anything and everything I could get my hands on, except, of course, an actual horse. But Aubrey was going to be introduced to the world of equines at the earliest possible moment. I would see to that.
