What an exciting month to report on! Our Olympians brought home a team silver, team bronze and an individual bronze. And our hopeful future Olympians, the North American Junior & Young Riders, did equally well. We are excited to have the chef d’equipes from our show jumping, eventing and dressage teams, Morley Abey, Bec Braitling and Alison Burt-Jacobs, write great behind-the-scenes reports from their week at the Colorado Horse Park—plus great pictures from all teams.

No tricks, all treats in this month’s editorial line-up.

We put a special emphasis on eventing this issue, highlighted by a state-of-the-sport Q&A with Area VI chairman Chris Scarlett and a transcendent piece by Olympian Lauren Billys: The Uncomfortable Compass. Asia Vedder shares a volunteer coordinator’s vantage point and the McFall family of Dragonfire Farm shares their little piece of paradise in Northern California.

I have been taking dressage lessons from Paul Cook at Cook Training Stables on Cathy Cook’s beautiful Friesian mare Vendi. It has been fun getting back in the saddle and riding is a super good therapy for lymphedema.

We hope you enjoy this issue packed full of dressage and equine therapy related articles, plus lots of news and features on inspiring horse people including Michele Bandinu, written by young Grand Prix rider AnnA Buffini, and Niki Clarke. We’ve got the scoop on parts of the USEF Festival of Championships coming to the Paso Robles Horse Park in October, and George Williams’ excellent USDF Region 7 clinic, written by participant Arianna Barzman-Grennan.
