Equestrian Trails, Incorporated (ETI) hosted its 59th National Convention and Horse Show July 21-29. In spite of a devilish heat wave that settled over the area, this year’s theme--Horse Heaven in 2007--was highly appropriate for a show with more than 180 western and english classes covering a range of categories, such as equitation, pleasure, halter and reining.
The competition began with barrel racing and other gymkhana events at Don-E-Brook Farm in Saugus. The next day the Convention Trail Trials brought riders to the Hansen Dam area for rides around the streams and tree-covered terrain.
The following three-day weekend kicked off the main extravaganza at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center where a veritable four-ring circus of events took place throughout each day.
With simultaneous english and western classes, there was truly something for every equestrian fan, including hunter/jumper, english flat, dressage, driving, western trail, and drill team competitions. In addition to a Chili Cook-Off and the Junior Ambassador program, ETI members could participate in photo, newsletter, website, equine-costume and barn-decorating contests.
From its origins during WWII as an equine patrol along the California shoreline, ETI has grown into a vibrant collection of local “Corrals” that supply the hundreds of volunteers needed to produce its horse show on a grand scale. Now celebrating its 63rd year in the equestrian community, the non-profit ETI continues its current mission “dedicated to the acquisition and preservation of trails, safety, good horsemanship and equine legislation.” This year’s successful convention proved once again that ETI is definitely on the right trail.
