Gloria Muscarella
Friesian fixation equals
success for photographer.

Gloria Muscarella was a florist for the movie industry for many years, including six years working on the film set of Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman with Jane Seymour. Following training by the cameramen on Dr. Quinn and formal filmmaking classes, Gloria went on to become a professional horse photographer and she is now well established in her business, Cheval Photography.

Always having a passion for horses and appreciating their unique beauty, she has had the thrilling experience of filming many of the world’s most beautiful breeds. One of her favorites has been the Friesian from the Netherlands. Gloria traveled through the Netherlands filming these gorgeous creatures in their natural habitat. She was also granted the special privilege of a personal tour of Queen Beatrix’ (Queen of the Netherlands) private stables, where the Friesians that pull her royal coaches are kept.
Gloria has traveled through England to the national Shire shows and attended the Windsor Castle Horse Show for Queen Elisabeth in her Jubilee year. While in London, the photographer was invited to ride along in the wagon of Young’s Brewery and take photos. Young’s Brewery is the only brewery left in London that actually uses Shires to deliver its beer by horse-drawn wagon through the streets of London.
Her numerous adventures led to many opportunities to do private photo shoots with different horse breeds and their owners. Gloria is the photographer for Straight Arrow Mane and Tail products, for which she has flown to many different States with the president and owner of Straight Arrow to film infomercials and photos for ad campaigns. Gloria also has done photography for the famous Budweiser Clydesdales.
Last year she was flown to Maui, Hawaii to photograph a dressage show and do many private photo shoots of people and their horses all over the island. Many of these used Maui’s beaches as their background. “What a life!” Gloria remarks. These photographs can be seen in the gallery section of Cheval Photography’s web site.
After being the official show photographer for many years at Del Mar Fairgrounds, Sea Side Park in Ventura and the Nevada County Fairgrounds, Gloria has moved on to doing mostly private photo shoots that can be turned into art and sold in private art galleries.
Gloria has won countless awards for her work and continues to produce awe-inspiring images for art galleries. She just won a third place ribbon for her photo Dream Horse at the Sacramento Horse Art Expo show this past June. She has three art pieces being shown in the upcoming Art of the Classic show in Nevada County Fairgrounds this September.
In 2004 Gloria produced the official two-hour DVD of the Friesian Extravaganza Show in Ogden, UT. This classic and timeless DVD has sold over 1000 copies and continues to be sold on Cheval International’s web site today. It’s a must-have for Friesian lovers everywhere as it contains over 20 novelty acts featuring these amazing horses.
In 2006 Edge Books produced a children’s book for libraries and schools on the Friesian horse using Gloria’s photos exclusively. They have produced many other horse breed books using Gloria’s work.
