Cool Medics is a family business that was started in California in 1998 with one purpose: to keep horses and riders cool and unruffled. In less than 10 years Cool Medics has skyrocketed with patents and distribution across the United States and now in Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and they are presently starting negotiations in other European countries. “A lot of our products have come from people who come to our trade shows, ask about our products and tell us what they would like to see,” explains Frank Gordon, founder of Cool Medics. “Magnetic therapy was one that we just kept getting asked about. I spent a lot of time researching magnetic therapy for people and horses and we spoke with numerous vets to help us design products that target the best spots.”
All Cool Medics products use 580 gauss, south facing Nickel Neodymium magnets. Magnetic therapy is generally believed to be a non-invasive, safe method of treating injuries and many painful conditions in both horses and humans. It has been speculated that magnets help speed along the healing process and aid in rehabilitation by stimulating and increasing the blood flow, which in turn oxygenates the white blood corpuscles (the body’s healing mechanism).
“The great thing about our new magnetic therapy products is that you are getting our traditional cooling products with the benefits of magnetic therapy - it’s a double whammy,” jokes Frank. “So far people have been really pleased. Many owners have told us that in the past they’ve struggled to find magnetic therapy products that are well made and reasonably priced.”
Cool Medics magnetic therapy products for horses are available in the form of a head cooler, cooling boots, hock boots, a neck cooler, a racing hood, as well as in a full and half size cooling blanket. Their human magnetic products include a wristband, an ankle cooler, an adjustable arm or leg cooler, a neck brace and a foot cooler. Both human and horse products come in a wide selection of colors and sizes.
“I just listen to what people in the field are saying,” says Frank. “They tell me what they need and I try to make it available. Another new product which came about that way was our Cool Posture Back Brace.”
The Cool Posture Back Brace is designed to help and correct posture in and out of the saddle. It is designed with adjustable elastic straps and velcro closures which gently pull back the shoulders to minimize slouching and stooping while remaining comfortable. Cool Posture is also manufactured from Cool Medics innovative cooling fabric so it helps correct posture while keeping riders cool.
