When you want the real scoop on a horse show, just ask the competitors. Jan Ebeling called it, “An absolutely wonderful show.” Leslie Morse said, “Being at Pebble Beach was fabulous.” The word in the barns was, “We love to show at Pebble Beach!” Lynn Roberts, co-chair of the show committee, had to agree, “I thought this was the best year yet.”
From the footing, to the exhibitor parties, to the perpetual trophies, and more, no detail was too small to get special attention. “I can’t say enough to thank Tim Postel and his crew,” Lynn said. “They brought in lots of sand to add to the polo field. They walked the warm-up arena with Jan Ebeling and Jurgen Hoffman to identify and fix some high and low spots. The footing was the best it’s ever been.”

“The best” describes the competition itself. In the CDI*** division alone, Jan Ebeling won the Grand Prix and took second in the Grand Prix Special with Amy Ebeling’s Rafalca, while Leslie Morse and her Tip Top 962 won the Grand Prix Special, with second in the Grand Prix. Donna Richardson and her Jazzman carried the Grand Prix Freestyle. In the Prix St. Georges, Intermediaire I, and the I-I Freestyle, Jan Ebeling swept first place on Ann Romney’s Sandrina, with Carolyn Adams and her Winterprinz at second in each.
Young Horses classes were another highlight. Standing out among these young stars was Donavan, the Hannoverian gelding ridden by Ericka Reinig for owner Lucchetti Ranch, with a commanding 80 percent score Sunday to win the FEI Young Horse 5-year-old Qualifier.
What’s on tap for the 58th Annual Pebble Beach Dressage Show next year? “It will be even better,” promised Lynn.
