Carlin Arabians, located in Northern California’s Prunedale, is a breeder of Arabian and Half Arabian horses and is the home of the stallion Jumpin Jak Flash+++//. Owner Liz Carlin’s goal is to breed horses that can compete and win not only in the Arabian shows, but against the “big guys” in Open shows as well. And she’s been successful so far.
The symbols after Jak’s name are from the Arabian Horse Association’s premier recognition program for horses that compete and receive points for their high levels of achievement. Jak’s symbols signify that he has reached the “Legion of Supreme Merit” level, which is indicative of his talent. The Legion of Supreme Merit title requires that a horse earn 150 points with a minimum of 60 in breeding/in-hand and 60 in performance. Jak has 430 points.
Born in 1997, Jak is 15.1 1/2 hand bay Arabian stallion with four white stockings and a beautiful blaze. His pedigree includes the best of Russian, Crabbet and Polish bloodlines. Jak has great conformation, straight legs, a nice short back and strong hindquarters. At the start of his dressage career Jak scored 8s on his movement/gaits and in the 70s on his tests in Training and First level.

According to Liz, Jak has the personality of a large puppy dog. She can’t pass by his paddock without acknowledging him. He is kind and always wanting to please his handler. Liz encourages people interested in Jak to come out and meet him. “Photographs can’t completely capture his magnetic personality and regal presence,” she says.
In 2004 Jak received a US National Top 10 in First and Second Level dressage. In Open competition, Jak has done equally well, winning many first place ribbons. He was also awarded the USDF All Breeds Award in Training Level and a Reserve Championship and multiple top fives for The US Equestrian Year End points. Jak was also named 2004 Champion Sport Horse Stallion at the big Scottsdale Arabian show, facing tough competition in a class of 19 other stallions. He went on to win championships in both Region III and Region II and at Pacific Slopes.
Jak is an Arabian Horse Association nominated sire. He is also approved with the American Warmblood Society. He is “blue preferred,” and only four percent of all AWS horses can satisfy the requirements to be an approved stallion. Liz relays that Jak’s inspector remarked, “I have never seen a horse more elastic and supple in all of my eight years inspecting for the American Warmblood Society.”
In 2005 Jak continued his reign in the show world. It was his first year competing in Show Hack and he was undefeated all four times. He was Region III Champion Show Hack and Sport Horse In-hand, Reserve Champion Sport Horse Under Saddle and, at Pacific Slopes, came home with five championships, one for each class he was shown in; Third Level Dressage, Show Hack, Sport Horse Under Saddle, Sport Horse in Hand, Open and Amateur.
Jak’s yearling son, Gentleman Jak, earned the Champion Sport Horse Colt distinction at the Pacific Coast Arabian Sport Horse Show and Diablo Arabian Horse Assoc Show. Jak’s 2 year old son, Jak of Hearts, was Champion 2 Year Old Gelding at Pacific Coast Arabian Sport Horse Show.
In 2006 Jak took a much needed year of rest from training and showing and watched his son Gentleman Jak win Champion Sport Horse in-Hand Geldings at Arabian Horse Association of NorCal show and then continue on to win National Top 10 Jackpot Geldings at Sport Horse Nationals. Jak’s daughter, Unforgettable Flash, did a lovely job her first year showing, placing second at the Pacific Coast Arabian Sport Horse show and earned a spot in the National Top 10 Jackpot fillies.
Jak will continue on his vacation through the 2007 breeding season. He is enjoying his time off, trail riding, going to clinics with Liz and breeding. Jak turns 10 in 2007 and in celebration Liz is offering his regular $1500/$1000 stud fee for $600 to all mares. If the mare is bred in February the mare owner will receive seven days of free mare care.
The year 2008 will introduce the $10,000 Jumpin Jak Flash Futurity, in which Jak’s offspring can win money at Sporthorse Nationals, regionals and Class A shows. See www.carlinarabians.com for rules and restrictions.
