Maverick Farm
Oregon breeding business makes a Genuine impression
on the sporthorse industry.

Though Maverick Farm is only in its sixth year of operation, the sporthorse breeding facility located in Lebanon, OR has already had an impact on some of the top trainers and riders in the sport. Maverick Farm’s first foal crop produced the NWSBA Yearling Futurity Champion, Futurity Reserve Grand Champion and winner of the USEF Zone 9 Hunter Breeding Championship that year. Since their initial success, owners Michelle and Ryan Hunt have strengthened their venture with the acquisition of the Oldenburg stallion Genuine and several broodmares with outstanding performance careers.
Genuine is currently in training with Morgan Carr of Encanto Valley Farm in Auburn, WA. Morgan claims that he can find no fault in the stallion, who has dominated the USEF Hunter Breeding classes in the Northwest since his first outings. As a yearling he was Reserve Grand Hunter Breeding Champion and winner of the Zone 9 Finals. As a 2- and 3-year-old he was Zone 9 Hunter Breeding Champion in his respective age divisions. “He’s sport-type, he’s brave to the jump, has a great hind end, is incredibly intelligent and trainable, is a flawless jumper, and throws babies that could succeed in either the hunter or jumper ring,” says the trainer. In fact, Morgan was so impressed with his mount that he recently purchased a baby by Genuine for his wife, Grand Prix-caliber rider Tia Carr.

"Along with correct conformation, movement and longevity, mares are selected for their temperaments and trainability so that horses from Maverick Farm are uncomplicated from the start of their training to the finish."

To continue to produce USEF Zone Hunter Breeding Champions and sporthorse prospects, the Hunts choose mares with long performance careers in hunters, jumping or horseracing. Currently, Real Royal Redbird, who boasts an 8-year racing career, the Thoroughbred Para Cielo, and Gidget, an Oldenburg cross with a successful dressage career, complete their mare stock. Each has enduring style and conformation and bloodlines that trace to celebrated horses. Along with correct conformation, movement and longevity, mares are selected for their temperaments and trainability so that horses from Maverick Farm are uncomplicated from the start of their training to the finish. Foals are handled daily from birth and so have a solid foundation for their future pursuits as competitors.
The Hunts also maintain time-honored breeding standards upheld by Rheinland Pfalz-Saar International (RPSI), the sporthorse registry established in Germany. Although they have retired the RPSI-approved Thoroughbred Vivaldi from breeding, Genuine has been presented to RPSI and is approved for Stallion Book I, pending performance requirements. Additionally, they plan to keep Vivaldi’s classic bloodlines coursing through the show ring with the breeding and competitive career of Coastal Symphony, a 2-year-old sired by the classic stallion.
Genuine’s 2008 breeding fee is $750, including booking fees.
