Hilltop Farm has been one of the leading North American stallion stallions for over 30 years. Their ever-changing stallion line-up offers breeders diversity through Hilltop’s own stallions as well as other North American Guest Stallions and select international stallions available via frozen semen. Stallions are carefully selected to complement the North American mare base and breeding goals; as well as, add diversity in pedigree and traits to the line-up as a whole. Each stallion is strategically selected to fill a special niche in Hilltop’s line-up.
Hilltop Farm was contacted this winter by US Grand Prix rider Jessica Howington who was importing an exciting new talent for her to develop to the top levels in sport. This fantastic young horse, Lordswood Bernstein SL (Bonds – Quaterback), was already licensed as a breeding stallion in Europe and Jessica was interested in offering him to North American breeders. Howington is both a rider and breeder herself, so she understands very well the need for considering both talent for top sport and breeding potential when selecting a stallion. When selecting Bernstein, Howington shared “what caught my attention is that he has an amazing trot, fantastic canter and a clear beautiful walk. His disposition, brain and rideability are excellent. He has a very interesting pedigree with top horses and with be an asset to any breeding program.” Previously located at Helgstrand Dressage, Andreas Helgstrand describes Bernstein as a “fantastic horse for the future” and we agree that his future is bright.
Bernstein is by Bonds (Benicio – Sir Donnerhall) who was named Oldenburg Champion Stallion in 2015 and earned impressive scores of 9.12 and 9.28 at his sport tests in 2017 and 2018. His exceptional damline is of particular note – Bernstein’s dam Sunshine M comes from the exceptional Elfenblume line from Germany which has produced both FEI horses and top producers. Sunshine M is by the influential stallion Quaterback, who has numerous offspring competing internationally at Grand Prix, including Hilltop Farm’s Qredit, and he is currently ranked #5 in the world on the WBFSH Dressage Sire Rankings. Bernstein will offer both new blood and proven lines to the Hilltop Farm line-up.
It’s exciting to see American riders securing top talent to develop for the future. Bernstein will remain with Jessica in Florida to continue his training and begin his competition career. Hilltop Farm will manage Bernstein’s collections through a Select Breeders Services’ affiliate lab in Florida.
