Quidam’s Pleasure is an exciting up and coming son of the Legendary stallion For Pleasure. His pedigree reads like a who’s who of only the best showjumping sires and stallion nicks, with Quidam de Revel, Cassini I and Caretino, combined with a strong Holsteiner mareline.
In 2019 Quidam’s Pleasure attended his BWP/NAD stallion inspection. Judge Boudewijn Schepers awarded him a score of 86 on his free jumping along with his provisional license. As BWP is a performance studbook and not a Stallion Test studbook, it is then necessary to produce a certain number of clear rounds in sport at the appropriate age to achieve full approvals. So, in his 5-year-old year, he moved to Okotoks, Alberta where he has received great training and results under the saddle of Australian Olympian Katie Laurie. Due to covid lockdowns, he only made his show ring debut in the fall of his 5-year-old year at Desert International Horse Park in the .90m to 1.10m. He quickly and consistently moved up to finish his 6-year-old year placing in the 1.30m. Being a very careful jumper, he produced multiple clear rounds in his first season to complete the necessary performance results for his lifetime approvals with BWP/NAD and BWP in 2022.
“Fluffy” is how he is known in the barn, as by the age of 2 he still didn’t have a barn name and Linda always referred to him as the fluffy one due to his long fluffy forelock. As time went on, it stuck, and Fluffy it is. It is very endearing and fitting, as he has the sweetest and kindest expression.
Quidam’s Pleasure is very light and elastic, a catlike mover. He has an incredible canter, a large stride with great balance and awareness of his feet, rarely putting a foot wrong in all his playfulness he displays on course. His desire and style of jumping is strongly influenced by his grandsire Quidam de Revel.
Quidam’s Pleasure’s first foal crop is turning 4 in 2024. He is producing beautiful, commercial, long legged offspring, that are inheriting his correct strong conformation and topline, incredible canter, kind smart expression and willingness to work. They are naturally balanced with easy lead changes. They show great scope with a classic technique, along with bravery and focus on the jump in the jumping chute. The movement and looks on many will be finding an easy path to the hunter ring, while still possessing the scope and carefulness to jump bigger tracks as well. He often produces bay with white markings, a star and snip, or the typical blaze of For Pleasure. Interestingly enough, although not tested, he has several offspring with a light mane and tail, what appears to be the silver dilution coming through from Quidam de Revel.
A high percentage of his offspring that have attended Keurings, have received Elite or Premium Awards. In 2023, his son Allegro out of Sonate (Corrado I/Barnaul xx) bred by Joanne Hansen of Bellamy Brook Stables was awarded Elite as well as being the #2 ranked BWP/NAD colt with an excellent score of 85! This is a great achievement for a domestically bred stallion competing for mares amongst the likes of all the top European stallions available today. His 2 year old daughter MSM Quidams Bliss bred by Cathie Newman was awarded premium at her CWHBA Inspection in 2023. To date he has babies registered with BWP/NAD, Westfalen and Canadian Warmblood.
While he himself is not a large stallion, standing at 16hh, he is producing height even from smaller mares. This is a credit to his damline and his mother Greetings from Quidam, who is a large framed, powerful moving BWP mare at 17hh and coming from the very strong Holsteiner Stamm 7126. She was purchased in 2009 from the BWP Auction in Antwerp, as a 3 year old already in foal to For Pleasure. For Pleasure was always a dream stallion for Linda, his lightness, scope and ease, despite being a smaller stallion in stature was very appealing. With these direct bloodlines, and her strong mareline with many 1.60m horses, the effort was made not to miss out on the opportunity to bring her to Canada. After riding and falling in love with the resulting filly Kwik Pleasure, the decision was taken to use For Pleasure again on Quidame.
Coincidentally, this came also at the time of a sudden rise in success and popularity of For Pleasure offspring at the top level, (much due to his use in Belgium on their larger, scopier mares).
The purchase of Greetings from Quidam also was the start of Linda’s involvement with BWP. BWP was always the studbook that felt most relatable to Linda’s breeding goals and aspirations. A studbook that has stood as the #1 Jumping Studbook in the World for several years that is open, along with a strong standard for X-rays and soundness. A studbook that allows you to use the best jumping blood you feel is the right addition to your mare. That is what Quidam’s Pleasure is. For Pleasure (Hann), Quidam de Revel (SF), and Cassini I & Caretino (Holst). A combination of the best of the best, and in the right order of success. After furthering her breeding program with BWP/NAD, a time came with an opportunity to take on a role of becoming the first Canadian member of the Board of Directors of BWP/NAD. Which has also allowed her to meet with several new and old people in Belgium, some that she only had experience with over the phone or by association. As in, upon further discovery, it was Joris de Brabander of Stal de Muze, that inseminated Greetings from Quidam with For Pleasure in Belgium. And it was his Derly Chin de Muze competing at the London Olympics that brought her attention to using For Pleasure with the bigger Belgian Nabab/Quidam mares to produce the needed scope for the bigger level. As well as auctioneer and breeder, Dirk Zagers, who prior to meeting and forming a good friendship, he generously kept Quidame in his care during quarantine on her way to Canada. Greetings from Quidam has been a career broodmare and has become the foundation of the Blue Moon Stables breeding program. She has also produced the Blue Moon owned BWP/NAD licenced son Salibri by Quabri de l’Isle, as well as Paradiso by Calido I (currently competing at 1.30m), and many E-Label daughters and jumpers. Who would have thought that a 20-minute phone call spent bidding on a mare she watched jump in an 11 second video would have brought her to so many new adventures, opportunities and reward.
Bred, born, and raised in Canada from imported parents, Quidam’s Pleasure and his owner/breeder Linda de Boer, both share an interesting story. The daughter of Dutch immigrant dairy farmers, Linda has always had an agricultural upbringing. However, horses became her sole focus after losing her father suddenly at the age of 18. She became a successful hunter/jumper coach certified by EC in 1998, but has now taken the decision to return to what she loves most, breeding and producing quality young prospects from the worlds best bloodlines. While being a first-generation horsewoman, creating something with your hands, with passion, integrity and hardwork has always been in the family. She welcomes you to visit or reach out to discuss breeding, bloodlines, prospects or just say hello at her farm Blue Moon Stables and Sales in Pitt Meadows, BC, Canada.
