July 2018 - Taking A Break

No Santa Barbara National this year.

The management and directors of the Earl Warren Showgrounds, in consultation with Langer Equestrian Group, as the manager of the annual Santa Barbara National Hunter Jumper Show, have made the decision to cancel the 2018 horse show.

“The winter rains, combined with the multiple times our facility served as an evacuation center for horses and animals impacted our ability to address the footing and maintenance needs of the facility,” said Pat Cary, interim CEO of the 19th District Agricultural Association, which manages the Showgrounds.

Facility staff is working closely with Charlotte Skinner-Robson of Langer Equestrian Group to upgrade the footing to meet the standards of a USEF National licensed hunter jumper show. “The Earl Warren Showgrounds is really committed to making sure it can provide a quality horse showing experience for California exhibitors,” said Skinner-Robson. “We were disappointed to see the show cancelled, but it was in the best interest of the competitors and we applaud the showgrounds staff and board of directors for making the difficult decision.”

Earl Warren Showgrounds is working with footing professionals to ensure the safety of exhibitors at shows throughout the year, including the Santa Barbara National Multi-Breed Show, Santa Barbara Riding Club shows and other equestrian events. Tentative plans are already underway to begin work on the arenas and footing this November when there is a longer break in the schedule. Earl Warren Showgrounds looks forward to welcoming the 100th Annual Santa Barbara National Hunter Jumper Show in 2019!
