Dome Van Overis and Haley Schwab Also Take the Blue in the $5,000 GGT Footing 1.20m Jumper Class

Saturday night was hot in Rancho Murieta for the $20,000 Murieta Inn & Spa Sacramento Grand Prix at Murieta Equestrian Center. The highlight event of the Sacramento Spring Classic saw 24 horse and rider combinations try their like at designer Mike Gallaway's first round course, consisting of 14 jumping efforts including three double combinations.

Ten pairs went clear in the first round to advance to the short course, and six of those put in an impressive double clear effort. Besting the field meant pressing the pedal to the metal, and young professional Haley Schwab put her foot all the way down to take not only first place but also second place.

"It was a really, really, exciting night," said Schwab. "I am just so grateful." Schwab's mount Dome Van Overis, owned by HH Stables LLC, won the class with a blazing fast jump off time of 37.247.

"He's just lovely," said Schwab of the 9-year-old bay warmblood gelding. "He can be spooky at things that aren't jumps, like flower boxes and wall signs, but when you get him headed towards a jump he's all in. Backwards, upwards, sideways.... it doesn't matter. If there's a jump there, he's ready to go." Dome Van Overis is a new mount for Schwab; this is only the pair's third week together.

Schwab took second place on Double O Seven 7, an 11-year-old grey KWPN gelding she has had the ride on since the end of last season. "He's an incredibly kind, special horse," said Schwab of Double O Seven 7. "He tries so hard and he's been there, done that. To be able to ride a horse as seasoned as him is a really big gift."

Haley Schwab wishes to thank Macella O'Neill and Charlie White of Diamond Mountain Stables in Calistoga, CA for their guidance. At press time, Schwab was headed to Murieta Inn's The Gate restaurant to celebrate with her grandmother.

Rounding out the podium at the $20,000 Murieta Inn & Spa Sacramento Spring Grand Prix was Conejito, a 17-year-old grey American Holsteiner gelding owned and ridden by Carol Wright.

Congratulations to all riders in this exciting class!

USHJA National Hunter Derby
On Friday evening the derby horses took to the Grand Hunter Arena for the USHJA National Hunter Derby at the Sacramento Spring Classic. An impressive field of 24 horse and rider combinations cantered around Mike Gallaway's first round course, and then the top 12 returned for a handy round. Zieta Z and Jessica Allan took the lead in round one and maintained it through the handy to take the championship with a total score of 179.

"I was really proud of her," said Allan of the 11-year-old chestnut Zangersheide mare. "She has really come into her own this year....She loves to jump and really perks up when there's a jump in front of her."

Even though she's a chestnut mare, Zieta Z is a sweetheart. "She has her opinions but she's actually one of the sweetest horses in the barn and a barn favorite. She's very special and just a nice horse to be around."

Jessica Allan, who is a trainer at Tallyhawk Stables, wishes to thank fellow trainer Danielle Smith, Zieta's groom Oscar, working student Camryn, as well as her husband and supportive clients and barn family!

Taking the reserve championship with a score of 177 was Guest List owned and ridden by Jessie Biglow, and coming in third place with a score of 171 was Five Fox Farm's Grey Goose ridden by Alison Stern.
