Southern California equestrian hub, Hansen Dam Horse Park, adds another spoke of activity in welcoming dressage trainer Olivia Frost to its roster of resident professionals. Since taking over the Horse Park in late 2017, Managing Director Larry Langer has prioritized working with trainers who share his goal of bringing high-quality equestrian experiences to new and existing enthusiasts throughout the region.

Competition on Sunday, February 24, at the Adequan® Global Dressage Festival (AGDF) featured freestyle classes from the Young Rider level to Intermediate I. They closed out competition during the seventh week of AGDF, which continues through March 31 at Equestrian Village at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center.

Jan Ebeling (USA) and Bellenna had the last test of the day and rode to a win in the FEI Intermediate I Freestyle CDI3* presented by the Wellington Regional Medical Center.

ASPCA fuels innovative grant opportunities to help horses safely transition to new homes, provide critical safety net resources, and enhance anti-cruelty efforts

The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) today announced that in 2018 it awarded more than $800,000 in equine grants to assist 56 organizations across the country. The grant funding supported several areas of equine welfare including increasing equine adoptions, expanding safety net services, strengthening law enforcement’s ability to address equine cruelty, and the Rescuing Racers Initiative, which aids in the rehabilitation and retraining of retired racehorses.

Just-released 3-year study cites steamed hay as critical to preventing IAD, a stealth equine ailment that affects over 80% of horses.

Inflammatory Airway Disease (IAD) affects huge numbers of horses and often goes undetected while impacting their performance. A three-year research project published by The Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine expands extensive past research confirming IAD’s prevalence. Older studies identify over 80% of the general horse population as having it. Conducted by a group of equine sports medicine veterinarians in Belgium, this new research studied over 700 active sport horses referred for performance issues or possible respiratory problems:  88% were diagnosed with IAD.

In 2015, West Palms Events established the Michael Nyuis Scholarship Program to provide young riders with financial support to lessen the burden of entry and show fees. Applicants submit a brief application with a summary of their equestrian experience as well as two videos, one explaining why they should receive the scholarship, and the other showing their best riding skills. The program allows the recipients to compete under a grant that covers all of their class and show fees up to $6500 per athlete.

US Equestrian is excited to launch the Para-  Equestrian Dressage Coach Certificate Program, a first of its kind for the industry. This certificate program covers the principles of para-dressage coaching including guided improvement process, coaching philosophy, and sport-specific skill acquisition.  It develops a coach's ability to prepare athletes from grassroots education to international competitions, along a continuum of progressive certificate levels. With the goal of coach development, the program uses classroom lecture time as well as simulated lessons, where coaches are given information and feedback on their teaching, knowledge, and overall performance.  The certificate program will take 3-6 months to complete, with a fast-track program offered, and involves onsite practicums, self-study, online exams, and final assessments.

Blenheim EquiSports is pleased to once again support emerging professionals with the 2019 Emerging Professional Grant. In the two years of the program, Blenheim has awarded almost $30,000 in total grants.

Aside from previous first-place or runner-up winners, any eligible 2018 applicant is welcome to reapply in 2019.
