USHJA Opens Entries for the AON/USHJA National Championships at The Las Vegas National CSI3*-W

Las Vegas—July 22, 2019—The U.S. Hunter Jumper Association has opened entries for the AON/USHJA National Championships at The Las Vegas National CSI3*-W, Nov. 11-17, 2019, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The USHJA invites members across the country to enter for a chance to qualify for the Championships through points and classes in their zone. Entries close Sept. 13, and interested members must enter in order to be eligible for qualifying.

New USHJA Jumper Classic Series to Debut in 2020

Lexington, Ky.—July 9, 2019—The U.S. Hunter Jumper Association has created the USHJA Jumper Classic Series to offer jumper riders competing at 1.10m to 1.40m fence heights additional opportunities to earn points, prize money and recognition. The series will debut in the 2020 competition year, and has no host application requirement.

California Governor Gavin Newsom announced Wednesday the appointment of Dr. Gregory Ferraro to the California Horse Racing Board (CHRB). Dr. Ferraro was the director of the University of California, Davis Center for Equine Health from 1997 to 2011 and associate director of the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital from 2011 to 2014. A well-known surgeon and Thoroughbred racehorse specialist who earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Ferraro was among the first to adapt human arthroscopic surgical techniques in horses.

The recent and unexpected death of Rob Gage has been shocking to the equestrian community. Any time a life is lost, it is a tragedy. In recent days, a number of member concerns have been raised regarding processes used by the U.S. Center for SafeSport (the “Center”). There has also been an increase in the distribution of incorrect and misleading information, as well as the bullying, harassment and blaming of survivors.

Saturday night was hot in Rancho Murieta for the $20,000 Murieta Inn & Spa Sacramento Grand Prix at Murieta Equestrian Center. The highlight event of the Sacramento Spring Classic saw 24 horse and rider combinations try their like at designer Mike Gallaway's first round course, consisting of 14 jumping efforts including three double combinations.

Devon, Pa. – May 28, 2019 – The Dixon Oval welcomed its first international show jumping competition at the 2019 Devon Horse Show and Country Fair on Tuesday evening with the $50,000 Jet Run Devon Welcome Stake CSI4*, sponsored 5R Farms LLC – Helen Rich. After making their Devon debut in 2018 with multiple top placings, the United States’ Nicole Shahinian-Simpson and Silver Raven Farms’ Akuna Mattata returned to Devon, Pennsylvania, all the way from California, to take home their first win together and the Sylvester L. Quigley Memorial Challenge Trophy at the iconic venue, besting 25 other horses and athletes.

Wonderful friend of eventing leaves an indelible impression.

Eventing lost a wonderful man Sunday as Don Trotter passed away peacefully after battling a short illness. Don was a key contributor through his volunteerism to the sport of eventing. Together, Don and his wife Pam owned Sunsprite Warmbloods, breeding and placing many top horses.

Emotional Advanced Win for Sara Sellmer & PDQ Leigh: James Alliston and Cassio’s Picasso KD top Intermediate division.

May 26, 2019. Woodside, California: Winning an Advanced division anytime is a big deal. It was even bigger for Canadian professional Sara Sellmer, who did so at the Spring Event at Woodside aboard Jill Walton’s PDQ Leigh. In 2016 at the same venue, Sara’s horse, TF Kreisler, died following an incident on the CCI*** course and Sara hadn’t been back since.

Temecula, Calif. – May 24, 2019 – Nilforushan Equisport Events’ Temecula Valley National Horse Show returned Friday for the week’s third day of riding, with the midway point highlighting the $5,000 Open Equitation Championship. The inventive class was held in the Audi Grand Prix Arena, presented by Evergate Stables, and allowed for professionals, juniors and amateurs to compete head-to-head. Demonstrating superior form and precision over fences, junior rider Emma Reichow earned the victory thanks to her exemplary skills aboard Breckenridge over two rounds of competition, besting a skilled and diverse field of contenders. Kicking off junior competition, Anna Fogarty and Be Our Guest positioned themselves as the pair to beat in the Junior 3’3” Hunter division after a series of smooth showings, and will resume Saturday as the division’s top contenders.
