Talk Derby To Me
May 4 in Orange County’s Silverado

Hosted by Giracci Vineyard and Farms in Orange County’s Silverado, this fifth annual gathering brings together dressage and racing fans. Equestrian demonstrations, include dressage freestyles, are the warm-up act for watching the Kentucky Derby in the afternoon. A hat and bow tie contest, cocktails, lawn games and music round out the day.

CDS Adult Amateur Clinic North
May 11-12 in Sacramento County’s Wilton

The Pacific Equestrian Center in Wilton continues with an impressive line-up of hosted events. This month is the California Dressage Society’s Adult Amateur Clinic with Lilo Fore on May 11-12. Next month, Leslie Morse is the Junior/Young Rider clinician on June 22-23. A featured event for July 6-7 is the PEC Extravaganza show, including breed show qualifiers on Sunday. And, Sept. 14-15, PEC hosts the USDF Breeding Championship Finals with Creeky Routson and Rene Johnson judging.

Preliminary Challenge & Preview
May 10-12 in Temecula and May 24-26 in Woodside

It’s Preliminary Challenge season in the eventing world as the campaign intensifies to draw top pairs into this stepping stone to international competition. The Preliminary Challenge Preview, at Galway Downs in Temecula May 10-12, is followed by The Preliminary Challenge and the Woodside Spring Event, set for May 24-26 at the Horse Park at Woodside in Northern California.

The Preview at Galway Downs offers $2,500 in prize money for both the Training and Preliminary divisions, with a Sunday finalé round and brunch honoring Mother’s Day. Two weekends later in Woodside, The Preliminary Challenge offers $15,000 in prize money in both the horse and rider divisions. The final phase is contested during a reverse-order-of-go stadium jumping round in front of a packed house of Saturday Evening Gala guests at the Horse Park at Woodside. It’s become quite the social occasion!

CALNET Show for Riders with Disabilities
May 18-19 in Burbank

The 32nd annual CALNET Show will be held once again at the prestigious Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank on May 18-19.   The show is one of the largest horse shows for disabled riders in the country. It is hosted by Ride On Therapeutic Horsemanship and is an all-volunteer effort now in its 32nd year.  Classes are free for riders with disabilities and there is no charge to spectate. All are welcome to enjoy a weekend of inspiration, fun and competition.

There will also be an open dressage schooling show on Sunday with the addition of a Dressage Seat Equitation Class - all are welcome to enter - coaches, volunteers and others - this is a fantastic opportunity to show in the Equidome at a super reasonable price.

New West Palms Shows
May 23-26 & May 29-June 2 in Sacramento area’s Rancho Murieta

West Palms Event Management has two new hunter/jumper shows this month, both enjoying new embellishments to the host venue, the Rancho Murieta Equestrian Center. The Sacramento Memorial Day Classic features a USHJA National Hunter Derby and the $15,000 Memorial Day Grand Prix, plus a Stick Horse Relay. The next weekend’s Sacramento Spring Classic has another USHJA National Hunter Derby, a West Palms 2’6” Hunter Derby, and $20,000 Murieta Inn & Spa Spring Grand Prix. Plus, a Horseless Horse Show and Hunt Teams of Three Tandem & Costume Competition. Good competition and fun for all!
