Sweeps dominate Spring’s marquee dressage competition.

Local favorites dominated the highest divisions for the 74th Annual Del Mar National Horse Show Dressage week, which concluded April 28 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

The most anticipated class was the CDI-W FEI Grand Prix Special, which featured top riders Sabine Schut-Kery and Nick Wagman. Schut-Kery placed second and Wagman took third and fourth, respectively, on Friday in the CDI-W FEI Grand Prix Test behind Steffen Peters, who placed first on Suppenkasper. On Sunday, Schut-Kery earned the top spot with a 72.085% and Wagman and Don John took home second with a 70.691% and Sherry Van’t Riet rounding out the top three with Sir Deauville at 64.340%.

The FEI Young Rider Freestyle saw two talented riders. Mackenzie Ryall earned first place honors with a score of 67.183% and Katherine Mathews and Soliere taking second with a 65.425%. Mathews took first on both Friday and Saturday, in the FEI Young Rider Team Test and the FEI Young Rider Individual Test.

The FEI Junior Division was commanded all week by Jori Dupell and Fiderprinz, they swept the division with wins in the FEI Junior Team Test, the FEI Junior Individual Test and the FEI Junior Freestyle!

The Afternoon of Musical Freestyles concluded with the CDI* FEI Intermediaire I Freestyle in the Del Mar Arena. This division was also swept, with all three classes in the CDI1* won by Jennifer Hoffmann and Rondoro Noblesse. Sunday, they earned an overall score of 72.333% to easily beat the competition.
