Another outstanding season for Stanford Equestrian’s collegiate, high school and middle school teams.

Coming off a third-place finish in 2018 (and 2017), Stanford’s Hunt Seat Team went to the 2019 Intercollegiate Horse Show Association National Finals as an underdog with not a single team rider competing in a class they had shown in before in the post season. After three tough days of showing, the Cardinal demonstrated their strength and consistency by securing their third straight third place finish! In addition, junior Emma McLean won Stanford’s 11th Reserve National Championship (in Team Novice Fences), and senior Kristen Blomstrom and junior Kelsi Okun each placed third in their respective Open Team classes (with Okun going on to finish fourth in her second-straight Cacchione Cup).

Stanford qualified a total of 11 athletes and won a record 13 top 10 placings--the most in Stanford history at one National Finals.

Stanford’s dressage program will celebrate our 10th anniversary next year and they showed that they are as strong as ever with their second consecutive trip to the Intercollegiate Dressage Association National Finals. With co-captains, sophomore Abby Fleischli and senior Alexa Corse returning to the Finals for a second time each (and joined by senior Holly Francis and sophomore Lucy Brewer), the team rode to a solid 10th place finish with Fleischli earning not just her third Reserve National Championship (in Individual First Level), but also Stanford’s first-ever Dressage National Championship (in Team First Level), bringing Stanford’s total National Championships to 17!

IEA National Finals

Stanford’s two IEA (High School and Middle School) teams are a huge point of pride. With over 30 of the top athletes from schools around the Bay Area competing under our two banners. This year we hired our first full-time IEA coach, Katie Steiner (a former IHSA rider who won the Cacchione Cup for Centenary University), and what a great decision that has been. Our Woodside team bested the field of the top 16 teams in the state and earned a trip to Harrisburg, PA for IEA Nationals where they finished an impressive 9th!
