What a privilege to end our year gathering tributes to the recipients of the California Professional Horsemen’s Association’s special award recipients. It’s our third year producing this feature and, for everybody involved, it’s a labor of love and appreciation for the sport.

The feature culminates a year of CPHA Spotlights, in which we’ve profiled an association member each month, introducing our readers to top trainers throughout the state, veterans and newbies. We’ve enjoyed getting to know them better, too, and we welcome ideas on who our readers want to learn about in the coming year. Special thanks to CPHA’s Jeni Brown and Ruth Frazier for their guidance and assistance!

This issue also includes interesting coverage of the United States Hunter Jumper Association and United States Eventing Association annual meetings. We are looking forward to the CPHA/PCHA Banquet Jan. 6-7 in Las Vegas, the California Dressage Society Symposium and 50th Anniversary celebration Jan. 20-22 in San Diego and the Area VI eventing get-together Feb. 17-19 in Fresno. Not to mention our normal circuit of hunter/jumper, dressage and eventing competitions, starting off with the eight-week HITS Coachella Desert Circuit on Jan. 17.

Most importantly, we wish everybody a happy and healthy New Year, humans and horses alike. Thanks to all who helped make 2016 a terrific year for California Riding Magazine. We are counting on your continued support for our 31st year of “Serving West Coast Equestrians.”

Happy Riding!

This boy has a puppy dog personality plus!

He loves people and loves attention.
