Jim Ifko

Busy Blenheim Spring

Canadian Jim Ifko began his season in California on a high note, taking the win in the $50,000 Blenheim Spring Classic IV Grand Prix aboard Eventyre Farms Ltd.’s Un Diamant des Forets on Sat., April 14. In front of a full audience of fellow equestrians and local fans, he delivered two swift, faultless rounds that secured him the win by over 2.5 seconds against five others in the jump-off. Robert Blanchette and his own Coupis picked up second place as the only other double clear finisher. Following them after the jump-off were Lane Clarke and Romeo du Paradis; Mattias Ekeroth and Hautesse Van’t Zorgvliet and Kyle King and McLord’s Othelo.

Jenny Karazissis

Lindsay Douglass and Butterfly Tibri Z got the Interactive Mortgage Under 25 Series off to a fast start, winning the first qualifier the same weekend. Estelle Navet was right behind her with Revann de Lojou, and Dalan Laughlan and Babiole were third. The popular U25 series continues at Blenheim EquiSports shows through the spring and summer, with the Final at the Las Vegas National.

Jenny Karazissis and Nonchalant were the stars on the hunter field, where they won the $10,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby honoring the late Arthur J. Hawkins. The pair sat third going in to the second round, but an impressive score of 186, including points for taking three high options plus six and eight handy points from judging panels one and two, respectively, placed them at the head of the class.

Laura Wasserman

Junior rider Augusta Iwasaki and Small Adventure were right behind Jenny K, followed by Jamie Sailor and Matador and Missy Froley on Double Play.

The San Juan Capistrano show was also the site for two special awards: Laura Wasserman was honored with the Arthur J Hawkins Award of Excellence for her contributions to promoting and rewarding the hunter division in the United States. And John French rode to the Romfh Leading Professional Hunter Rider of the 2017 Blenheim Spring Series.
