Amateur jumper rider Chandler Meadows has followed Red Bucket Equine Rescue’s good work for several years. When she won the $25,000 Interactive Mortgage U25 Developing Rider Series Final at the Las Vegas National, she knew right away she wanted to donate $1,000 of the purse to Red Bucket. The student of Morley Abey & Joie Gatlin is pictured here with her partner in the victory, Damian, and Red Bucket’s Susan Knox, left, and founder Susan Peirce. Chandler’s parents matched her donation and she hopes that other equestrians might follow suit. Top ranked rider Kent Farrington’s donation of his $71,000 Central Park Grand Prix purse to hurricane relief was definitely an inspiration, Chandler added. Photo: Kim F. Miller

Right after wrapping this issue, editor Kim F. Miller rushed off to the Las Vegas National in time to see Richard Spooner win three big show jumping classes, including the Longines FEI World Cup Jumping competition. And Kaitlyn Lovingfoss won her third major medal finals with victory in the WCE Finals.

The competition was exciting and so was the news revealed there: Blenheim EquiSports and West Palms Events are adding new FEI classes to their calendars for next season, all part of a commitment to make it easier for riders with international ambitions to earn team spots, at various levels, without having to leave the area to earn ranking points. We also learned that the World Cup season will be condensed by moving the Thermal qualifier, usually in February or March, to the November Sunshine Series at the same desert venue. And, there’s big news brewing about major growth for the Las Vegas National show itself, but we were sworn to secrecy until the news is official. Stay tuned…

Looking forward to attending the US Eventing Association annual meeting in Long Beach Dec. 6-10.
