We hope you enjoy this issue jam-packed with original articles and information on our feature focuses for the month: dressage and therapeutic products and services, plus our usual mix of hunter/jumper, eventing and general interest news.

Thanks to Sarah Lockman Dressage for being our cover sponsor. We’re excited to share the story of her major step toward realizing international dreams and appreciate the support that allows us to bring equestrian news to nearly 20,000 readers throughout the West Coast.

Speaking of Sarah, we apologize to photographer Sandy Stenzel for missing a photo credit for her, on this photo of Sarah in a June issue article on Anique Equestrian clothing.

This issue also contains a labor of love: profiles and photos of all 17 Zone 10 jumping riders heading to either the FEI Adequan® North American Youth Championships in New York or the Pony Jumper Finals in Kentucky this month. We had profiled their eventing and dressage counterparts in the July issue. The NAYC for eventers took place July 18-22, just as we wrapped us this issue.  The results weren’t totally tabulated as we went to press, but we know for sure that Area VI’s 2* team earned bronze at Rebecca Farms in Montana and that team member Maddy Temkin finished 9th individually. Kudos to her fellow team bronze earners: Mallory Hogan, Kaley Sapper and Lisa Takeda, and everyone else representing Area VI.

In the open competition, The Event, that hosts NAYC, familiar California faces dominated. Frankie Thieriot Stutes and Chatwin won the CCI3*; Heather Morris and Charlie Tango topped the CCI2*; Tamie Smith won the CIC3* on Fleeceworks Royal; and Erin Kellerhouse and Woodford Reserve won the Open Intermediate.

We wish all readers and their horses a safe August, as hot weather and fire risks continue. As always, hope for the best and prepare for the worst!

ADOPT ME! Gunsmoke is a gorgeous 10 yr old bay roan gelding up for adoption at FalconRidge Equine Rescue in Valley Center, CA. He was rescued two years ago from auction and had not been started under saddle yet. He was sent to training for three months with Julie Picot and started under saddle. He was adopted out, but had a tendency to buck, so was sent back to the rescue. We are looking for an adopter who is experienced enough to continue his training under saddle, or who will hire a professional trainer to continue his training under saddle successfully. He stands 14.3 hands high and has great ground manners. Adoption fee is $500. See Gunsmoke on our adoption page at
