CARMA’s Chips All In: Saturday, July 16 in Del Mar

Efforts to re-home Thoroughbreds after their racing careers are over are growing in number and effectiveness. It’s great to see many shows and organizations staging classes and year-end awards that demonstrate and promote the breed’s suitability in hunter/jumper, eventing and dressage.

California Retirement Management Account is one of longest-standing organizations in this field. Their mission is assisting Thoroughbred retirement facilities that care for and retrain these horses for second careers and it continues to be very successful.

CARMA Cares’ Chips All In event takes place at the Del Mar Hilton and features poker, a silent auction, games, food and fun.

Quadrille Clinic: July 23-24 in Santa Rosa

California Dressage Society and DressageClinic.com present this quadrille clinic with Melissa Creswick, a USEF “S”rated dressage judge and an “R” rated sporthorse judge. Melissa’s many accomplishments include training the state champion quadrille team at the CDS annual show in the late 80s.

The clinic welcomes quadrille newcomers along with those with experience who want to sharpen their team’s skills. A classroom session on Saturday afternoon will review key elements of spacing, synchrony and alignment and video demonstrations. The mounted sessions on Sunday wrap up with time for Q&A with Melissa.

Participation is open to all CDS members: $75 per rider and auditing is free. The venue is the Santa Rosa Equestrian Center. For more information, contact Tracy Underwood at 707-975-2097 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

CDS Junior/Young Rider Championships: Aug. 5-7 & Aug. 25-28 in Elk Grove & Burbank

Hard to believe it’s time for year-end championships already, but that’s the case for the California Dressage Society’s Northern and Southern Junior & Young Rider Championships. The Northern edition is set for Aug. 5-7 at Starr Vaughn Equestrian Center in Elk Grove. Michele Vaughn is managing the competition and the judges are Creeky Routson, Carol Lavel and Kristi Wysocki. The Southern edition is set for Aug. 25-28 at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center and with show manager Glenda McElroy at the helm. The judges for this one are Melissa Creswick, Mike Osinski, Creeky Routson and Cindy Canace.

Good luck to all!
