Prieto & Carlton Café Sip Success in Sonoma

Freestyling Farms LLC’s Jill Prieto rode Carlton Café to the win June 18 in the $25,000 SmartPak Grand Prix, during the HMI June Classic at the Sonoma Horse Park. Preparing to compete in a field of 19, Jill thought designer Chris Jones’ course looked “nice and inviting.”

“There was just one line I had a question about for myself: I thought that the course designer was really asking to see whether you would lengthen in the 5 to the 2 (line) or shorten in the 6 to the 2. My gut was the right ride would be the 6 to the 2, even though I knew it was going to be hard for my horse and for myself because her adjustability isn’t great.  But I stuck to the plan and it ended up working out real well. And then she jumped fabulous.

She always does. She’s amazing.”

Carlton Café, out of Carlton Clover, is a 10 year old Irish Sporthorse mare imported three years ago.
