Time is flying. From late-September’s USET Talent Search Finals West to late-October’s Del Mar International, it’s been an action-packed start to end-of-the-year finales in the equestrian world. Dressage’s USDF Region 7/CDS Championships and the Area VI eventing championships are a few more of the big shows we’ve covered in this issue, along with the Longines LA Masters and Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping in Sacramento and Del Mar.

Thanks to California Professional Horsemen’s Assn. president Jeni Brown for getting an early start on year-end reflections and to Karen Healey for urging involvement in the hunter/jumper sport, especially as the United States Hunter Jumper Association annual meeting comes to Palm Springs Dec. 11-5.

Two of our favorite young contributors, Sydney Callaway and Ayden Uhlir, have terrific reports from their respective recent adventures. Sydney shares her summer immersion in European horsemanship and Ayden provides her perspective on the World Breeding Dressage Championships.

Hope you enjoy our tack trends and tips pieces and our second of three holiday gift guides.

We’re sorry to report that My Thoroughbred Makeover columnist Emily Flaxman had to withdraw from the late-October Championships in Kentucky for reasons unrelated to her horses’ progress. We’ll miss the Bay Area trainer’s updates on transitioning her OTTBs into solid dressage prospects. We wish her all the best and are grateful for the year’s worth of terrific columns she wrote for us. You can reach Emily through www.emilyflaxman.com.

Happy Riding!
