Dramatic water conservation is one of new footing material’s many benefits.

With California’s record-breaking drought well into its fourth year, news of a top quality arena footing that retains water five times longer than normal footing sounds a little too good to be true. But Premier Equestrian’s 14 years in the business lend credibility to that claim, and both common sense and science back it up.

Orange County enthusiasts score a win for all.

Gotta admit, we thought the Laguna Beach Horse Lovers group would have a tough time topping the public tour they organized in March during the big CDI dressage show at Rancho Mission Viejo Riding Park in San Juan Capistrano.

That drew a huge crowd whose tour included visits with Steffen Peters and Legolas, show jumpers/event organizers Hilary and Robert Ridland and other equestrian celebrities.

Everything you ever wanted to know about saddle fit, but were afraid to ask.

by Jochen Schleese, CMS, CSFT, CSE

This is a topic which one would think is simply common sense, yet most riders do not know there are specific difference between saddles made for men and saddles for women. This makes sense given the lack of gender appropriate saddles on the market; traditions in the trade of saddlery are too ingrained to be easily changed.

California Riding Magazine founder Cheryl Erpelding receives the 2015 AHP Chris Brune Spirit Award.

The American Horse Publication’s Chris Brune Spirit Award was the brainchild of the 2015 AHP Champion, Deborah Taylor, who saw the award as a way of recognizing the efforts of members other than the Board of Directors. She hoped that this award would encourage members to seek involvement in the association and eventually lead into leadership roles. Initially titled the President’s Spirit Award, the award is presented to the member who has done the most consistently to assist and support the association. The Board of Directors selects the winner. In 2004, the inaugural award was presented to Chris Brune and the title changed to the AHP Chris Brune Spirit Award.
