State of California grants first recognition of equine bodywork school.

In recognition of Equinology®’s history of integrity, financial stability and educational quality, the 21-year-old equine health care education institution has been awarded California approval to operate, making it the only state school dedicated to equine bodywork.

In granting certification, the California Bureau for Private Post Secondary Education, a division of the Department of Education, considers how historically the school has protected students’ financial investment in their education, and evaluates the quality of the program.

“We are so proud that the state has recognized how hard we have worked to build a school with the eminent international reputation that we enjoy,” says Debranne Pattillo, president and founder of Equinology, which is headquartered in Mendocino County’s Gualala. “While the application process is rigorous, our program conforms to the state’s criteria so well.”

Equinology offers 40 approved courses in equine and canine bodywork, sports massage, soft tissue modalities, science and health care, designed to give students an in-depth, comprehensive, maximum quality education with entry and masters certification programs.

“Our students work hard to complete our intense certification criteria. For example, our entry level certification requires over 300 hours of course work and externship. Once completed, these students are really prepared for their profession.”
With a roster of students from around the world, Equinology also offers bodywork-related courses in bodywork for licensed professionals including veterinarians, chiropractors, osteopaths, physical therapists, veterinary technicians, and advanced animal bodyworkers and massage therapists.

Regulations governing animal massage therapy schools vary by state and country, with some requiring education from a state recognized school.

Founded in 1994, Equinology has long enjoyed a reputation for its high standards in equine health care education, offering instruction at the intensive level of certification, continuing education or a one-course experience.

Courses are available in world-wide locations including the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, England and South Africa.

The Equinology® Approach is the cornerstone for the Equinology Equine Body Worker Certification® This unique hands-on system addresses the whole body, implementing specific manual palpation methods to assess soft tissue and symmetry of muscle and structure, and utilizing detailed static and dynamic evaluation to inform the practitioner. A variety of bodywork techniques including sports massage, soft tissue mobilization, stretching, range of motion and positioning exercises, as well as focal point work (stress and trigger points) are combined to provide optimal support for horses working in every discipline.
