Most newly engaged couples spend the year before their wedding knee deep in plans for their big day. Robyn Fisher and David Koss aren’t most couples. While others would be picking out invitations and floral arrangements, Robyn and David are busy mapping out every detail for their new equestrian facility, R. Farms, located in Moorpark.

To call R. Farms pristine doesn’t due the property justice. The facility includes a 22-stall barn with comfort mattress stall mats, two large arenas, a euro-sizer, a round pen, as well as both sand turnouts and grass paddocks. Located in the rural hills of Moorpark, R. Farms has access to hundreds of acres of trails ideal for conditioning or purely for pleasure. The incredible amenities at R. Farms will be the foundation upon which Robyn and David will expand their partnership to build a first class business specializing in three day event and dressage training.

For those who know the couple, it seems only fitting that the pair would merge their expertise to establish a facility that they could own and operate together. Robyn and David come from distinct but equally impressive backgrounds in the equestrian world.

Each brings a unique skill set to the partnership that will ensure R. Farms will cater to all facets of equestrian care and training.

Robyn and David are acclaimed event riders who have successfully competed through the upper levels with a number of partners. With decades of experience between them, the two have earned a number of impressive accolades. Robyn and David’s high-level backgrounds have fostered their reputation as riders and teachers, and imbued them with an impressive ability to train horses and riders of all skill levels.

Robyn and David’s training program is impressively well-rounded due to their varying areas of expertise.  They are both licensed officials in their own right. Robyn’s affinity for dressage led her to pursue her “R” dressage license, while David’s love for jumping prompted him to become a licensed “r” course designer. Both have had the opportunity to apprentice and learn from some of the best officials in the world to gain unparalleled insight and technique in their respective disciplines. David’s experience with cross-country design and construction includes work on many of the most competitive tracks in the U.S., and Robyn is a sought-after dressage judge and official for competitions across the country.

Of all the facets of their careers, Robyn and David are most proud of the young horses and riders that they have played a part in developing. Both are passionate about incorporating the insight gained from their experiences as riders and as officials into their training program. David’s history of bringing along and self-producing homebred horses makes him particularly well suited to young inexperienced horses. His breadth of knowledge regarding course design is extremely advantageous in educating riders of all experience levels on both the fundamentals and more technical elements of the jumping phases. Robyn has similarly trained a number of horses and riders through the top level of competition, with many of her students fulfilling their dream to compete at the North American Young Rider Championships. She is keen to implement her experience as a dressage judge to educate and enhance the flat work of her students to best prepare them for the show ring. Although both Robyn and David remain fierce competitors with an active show schedule, they insist that training horses and coaching riders is the most rewarding aspect of their careers.

“I have ridden with Robyn for over 10 years now,” her student Cara Julian explains. “With a decade of time together, it never ceases to surprise me that I learn something new from Robyn every day,” Cara laughs. “Robyn’s incredible eye for promising young event prospects led me to acquire my mare, Wunder Schon, as a 2-year-old. Robyn has worked with me every step of the way, and with her expertise and guidance, I have had the opportunity to grow as a rider to develop Wunder Schon and successfully compete her through the CCI ** level.”

David’s student Elle de Recat similarly credits her coach for helping her establish a strong partnership with her new green horse, Hunter. “David has a way of communicating when he teaches where he will say the same thing 100 different ways until you understand,” she tells me. “He is so patient with both horse and rider, and that mentality has been key in building Hunter’s confidence as an eventer, a discipline that’s completely new to him.”

For Robyn and David, the opportunity to own and operate an equestrian facility cultivated from the ground up is a highlight of their careers so far. With the pair’s breadth of experience, R. Farms promises to be the premiere three day event and dressage facility in Southern California. No stone has been left unturned by the couple, and they have diligently brought their vision to life. R. Farms’ caters to the highest quality of horse care, offers comprehensive student instruction, and top of the line amenities. Whether you are an amateur or an experienced competitor, Robyn and David’s training program at R. Farms will help you achieve your goals.
